THE FILMS OF PARADOXE

Is a movie distribution and video and DVD diffusion and edition company, who is part of what is called the independent distributors. LES FILMS DU PARADOXE was creates by Jean Jacques Varret in 1990 who is currently still the manager. The activity started with the release of L'homme qui plantait des arbres of Frederic Back.

With the passing years, we built a demanding collection, with the will to make discover authors, French and international, and with a predilection for three types of films: - the film for children, of animation or fiction. - foreign authors (we were the first in France to distribute films of Kiarostami or Haneke) - the documentary for cinema release.

To defend the independant cinema of "art et essai", to propose distracting and high quality children programs, to make rediscover forgotten works or to give a new chance to certain films to find their public, this is what guides our steps. Vis-a-vis of the cinema known as [grand public], we think that there is still place (or that it should be done!) for public having varied and different tastes and creators with innovative or original artistic talents.

The video section is working since 1995, with today approximately 85 titles. This section initially was creates in order to continue the work of diffusion of our films on another [support]. Then within sight of the positive reactions, we decided to widen it and propose this service to the producers, distributors, editors eager to exploit their films on this [support] and which felt in adequacy with our founders choices. Thus we work today with about fifteen partners. For those who have a site, you will find the link in the our link page. The video represents today a true second chance for a number of films, being given the current problems of the distribution (spreading of multiplexes, congestion of releases, movie overproduction, etc...). Many films have likely no chance to meet their public, considering the verdict which represents the first week in Paris' theaters. One can try, on our humble level, to make meet the public and his films which does not collect the votes of million French but who deserves this chance.

According to the video market, it will have to face the arrival of the DVD, which is certainly an improvement as well in term of quality of image as of contents. But it is also an additional difficulty for the independent ones, who will have to fight to face the financial costs of the conversion into DVD.
